On Tuesday, July 20 at 10:30 A.M., 32 Strathmore kids and 9 adults were enthralled with "Bubbles By Brandon"! Kids learned all about the power of bubbles and it was a great finale to a "fun-filled" summer reading program. We also had a snack and designed our own moose hats. There were 9 perfect attendance awards given and everyone received a prize. So far this summer, Strathmore children have read over 18,000 pages. Strathmore's summer reading program had a total attendance of 206 children and 50 adults with 80 kids registering and an average attendance of 34 kids and 8+ adults. Kids may continue to complete their reading records through the end of summer. We will resume our after school craft activities on the 1st Wednesday of August from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. and Pre-School Story Hour will resume on the first Tuesday of August and will run every Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. We give a special thanks to all of the parents and grandparents who were faithful in bringing the kids to the programs. Thank you, Manuel Solorzano, for the beautiful wall mural! Also, thank you Strathmore Friends of the Library and Visalia Friends of the Library for providing special entertainment for all of the kids! It was a great summer and the 2010 Tulare County Library Summer Reading Program really did "MAKE A SPLASH!"

PROGRAM #5: STRATHMORE KIDS HAVE AN INFORMATIVE UNDERSEA ADVENTURE!
On Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30 A.M., 28 kids and 7 adults explored the Pacific Ocean and some on its' creatures. We sang the Beatles' YELLOW SUBMARINE and OCTOPUS GARDEN and listened to books being read, such as SWIM THE SILVER SEA, JOSHIE by Nancy Carlstrom, THIS EARTH OF OURS: THE OCEAN by Mel Higginson, excerps from THE OCEAN TIDE POOL by John L'Hommedieu, POLAR BEAR, POLAR BEAR, WHAT DO YOU HEAR? by Bill Martin and others. We enjoyed a snack and then made our own "shark hat". Help! A Shark is eating my brain!

PROGRAM #4: STRATHMORE KIDS ENJOY A "COUNTRY SPLASHDOWN!"

On Tuesday, July 06, at 10:30 A.M., 36 children and 8 adults participated in country shananagans! We were read LEON & ALBERTINE by Christine Davenier, as children helped with the flannelboard characters! We also enjoyed our farm pond stories, THE WIDE-MOUTHED FROG by Keith Faulkner, OVER IN THE MEADOW by Ezra Keats, BARNYARD MATH WITH FARMER FRED by Sandi Hill, and we sang THE LITTLE WHITE DUCK as we also used flannel board characters to enhance the song. We even did the "CHICKEN DANCE"! EEEEEEH! HAW!
We had fun making our Alligator note pad!

PROGRAM # 3: STRATHMORE KIDS LEARN HOW OUR FOREFATHERS MADE A SPLASH IN HISTORY!
On Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30 A.M., 27 kids and 5 adults geared-up for our nation's birthday! We made magnetic alligator note holders. We had a brief history of the forming of our nation through stories and songs!
When King George III ran out of money on the French & Indian War, he decided to tax the American Colonies heavily! Colonists reacted, dressed as Indians, by dumping tea into the harbor ! Splash!
After war broke out and the RED COATS were approaching, General George Washington organized the Continental Army and Americans fought under horrible conditions. General Washington decides to cross the Deleware! Splash! The Americans win an important battle at Trenton!
Americans continued to fight the British in rain, rivers, marshes, swamps, etc! Splash!
After Americans drove the British back to Yorktown, the French arrive in ships to help! Splash!
British general, Cornwalllis surrenderers and the treaty of Paris is later signed!
The Continental Congress drew up THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE and on July 4th, 1776 the final draft was signed and we became a nation! Splash!

WEEK #2 OF "MAKE A SPLASH-READ": E & M REPTILE FAMILY ENTERTAINS!
On Tuesday, July 22 at 10:30 A.M., 55 children and 16 adults were captivated by nature's creatures. Eric, from E & M REPTILE FAMILY, with "CROCODILE HUNTER" - type enthusiasm, brought "MOTHER NATURE" into Strathmore Branch Library! Talk about reptilian (and some amphibian) drama! We all loved it!
Be sure to visit us next Tuesday, June 29 at 10:30 A.M., to see how our "FOUNDING FATHERS' made a splash in history! We will make a craft and enjoy a walk down our country's "MEMORY LANE". Later...Gator...(Hee! Hee!)

2010 1ST SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT STRATHMORE "MAKES A SPLASH!"
On Tuesday, June 15 at 10:30 A.M. 26 kids and 5 adults were entertained by BLACK ASHES, lady pirate, from "A WISH YOUR HEART MAKES" party group, headed by KATHY BROWN. Wild sea adventures were enjoyed by all. We all heard pirate stories, played pirate games, found burried treasure, and we even walked the plank. We all decided to seek new water adventures as pirates after we made our own pirate hats! See you later you "scurvy dogs"!
Don't forget to attend next week's program on Tuesday, June 22 at 10:30 A.M. Eric, from E & M Reptile Family, is going to demonstrate how "Mother Nature" knows how to "Make a Splash"!

Tulare County Library Celebrated 100 Years of Service at Strathmore Branch Library on Thursday, June 9th from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M.!
50 Strathmore residents celebrated The Tulare County Library Century of Service at the Strathmore
Branch Library. Jeff Edwards, local historian, was featured guest and he displayed his local history books. The kids learned all about the dewey decimal system as teacher Deanna Sturgeon read THE LIBRARY GINGERBREAD MAN by Dotti Enderle. We all participated in a "dewey-decimal" title hunt and created our own favorite "design a dewey duck"! We also made a Father's Day craft for out Dads!
Refreshments and hand-outs were enjoyed by all! Happy Birthday Tulare County Library!
